There has been a lot of discussion, lately, about investing
in real estate through a self directed IRA fund. With an IRA,
one may not invest in a life insurance policy or collectibles. However, real
estate , trust deeds, unsecured notes, annuities, treasuries, stocks, real
estate investment trusts, money market funds, limited partnerships, bonds,
mutual funds, and certificates of deposit have been touted as possible
avenues of investment. Is investing in real estate an option for you?
Research, research, research!!! Contact several self-directed
IRA administrators and compare their fees and programs. They can vary
widely. Then you can establish an IRA with the self-directed administrator by
opening a new IRA, transfer a part of the assets from an old one, or use a
rollover from a qualified plan to establish the self-directed IRA.
Self-direction of IRA money into real estate can be a good move even
though real estate is not a liquid asset. However, first seek the advice your
attorney, accountant and investment advisor who is familiar with your
personal investment plans.
